Thanks very much :-)

We were made very welcome at the bank yesterday when we went down to deposit our money for Children in Need. We met some lovely lovely bank employees who helped us use the counting machine, deposit our money and gifted us with a bag from the bank. They really enjoyed having us visit.

The bank are keen to have some photos of our visit. If anyone has any objections with us sharing photos with the bank, please get in touch. Many thanks for your support.

A Great Big Thank You!

We want to say ‘Thank You’ so much to everyone for helping us raise money for Children in Need. We decided a great way to round off our learning in money would be to take all of the coins we collected down to the counting machine in the bank. We had to pour the coins in and we got a receipt to tell us the value of all of the coins. The final total for the dress down and collect the coins was…

Β£380.44

Big Learning this week…

Phonics

We are learning to identify l, f, o and b.

We are learning to blend sounds to build words.

Try our some of these games on Topmarks to practise identifying and using sounds.

Garden Leaves

Hanging Monkeys

The Painting Game

Numeracy

We are learning to identify coins and add coins together to make a given value.

Try the Coin Game. Select the counting tab and this will let you practise adding coins together.

Take your piggy bank out and use the coins to make a shop at home. We are going to do this next week in school! What will we need to make a shop?

Handwriting

We are leaning to form letters correctly.

We are finishing the Curly Caterpillar letters this week, working hard on f and e.

Representing our class

One of the skills we are working on this term is ‘Representing our Class’.

The children told me that we represent our class when we…

are kind to others, we help our friends if they fall, we go on a message for Mrs Fowler, we collect money for Children in Need, we speak up for our class, we act nicely, we behave really well if we are out of the class.

Really proud teachers! πŸ™‚ Well done Primary 1

Reading Comprehension

No new reading books this week as it is a short week BUT we are still learning lots of reading skills and having fun and enjoying books!

We are building our comprehension skills and using clues to help us understand what we read.

Today we were thinking about making connections with ourselves and with other texts we have read.

we make connections we ask questions:

-What does this make me think about?

-What does this remind me of?

-I think…?

-I remember…?

Have a go at home when you are sharing a book together. Can you think about making connections to your own experiences or to a text you have already read?

Spotty Biscuit Decoration

For our ‘Great Big Pudsey Day’ the children had the idea of cake baking but I’m afraid a three tiered celebration cake is out of my league so we are going to decorate biscuits on Friday.
We will be icing, decorating and eating spotty digestives.
We will make some yellow icing to put on top of a digestive and decorate with sprinkles, mini smarties or choc chips to create a spotty effect.
If there are any questions or queries about this activity please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
