Super Skills

Rights Respecting Russel (AKA Humpty Dumpty) helped us this week with our skills. We are developing a really important skill – ‘working together cooperatively with others’.

The challenge was to build Humpty Dumpty a new wall! To be really successful working together we can:

  • talk and listen together
  • build one model (not one each! :-))
  • stay with our team
  • take turns and share

Big Learning this week…

Phonics – We are learning to identify and say the sound.

This week we started our phonics learning with the sound ‘a’. We played I spy and did lots of listening to the word as we said it out loud to match sounds and letters. We made apples for the wall and had to draw pictures beginning with ‘a’.

Maths –

We are learning to count to match.

We are learning to form our numbers correctly.

PE

The children made a great job of getting changed into PE clothes this week and we have been both inside moving rhythmically to music following a beat and outside practising our ball skills.

Rhyme and Write!

We are learning a new action rhyme.

Five little monkeys sitting in a tree,

Teasing Mr Crocodile, ‘You can’t catch me!’

Along came Mr Crocodile as quiet as can be…

SNAP…

Ask the children what happens next!!

We are learning to use the ‘snappy crocodile’ pencil grip to help with our handwriting skills and build on our fine motor skills. Great effort everyone 😉

We are achieving!

Success goes to P1 and P1/2 this week as they are the classes that have been chosen as ‘best class’ for the weekl We celebrated at assembly as all of the children have settled into school life with ease. So proud of our little learners. 🙂

It is the end of the day and we have worked hard… Where is the trophy? 🙂
Round 2 – Apologies for the photography skills!
Round 3 – The best I can do at 2.50pm! The trophy is in there! :-):-)

SMILE!

The Inverness Courier will be in school on Thursday 29th at 1.30pm to take a group photograph of all of the P1’s. The photo supplement will be published on the 27th September along with all of the other new entrants to school.

Big learning this week…

We have been learning to read words. We have met Kipper, Biff, Chip and Dad and have been reading short phrases in school ‘Dad and Kipper’ and ‘Biff and Chip’.

Keep practising the words in your yellow books. I can tell you have been working really hard :-).

We have been developing our fine motor skills through all area of the curriculum: cutting and sticking, drawing and colouring, writing and pencil work and ball skills.

In maths we have been using the words ‘same’ and ‘different’ to sort and match into sets.

In PE we have been learning to use our body well with control and practising movements through energetic play. Even in this hot weather!!

Meet Dad

We are learning to read words!

We have introduced the character ‘Dad’ along with ‘and’. We have been practising in school each day to recognise and read these words. Have fun at home reading 🙂

PE

As part of our Health and Wellbeing (HWB) our ‘big learning’ is to move our body well in a controlled way and finding and sharing space to stay safe . We will do this through travelling in different ways and controlling objects. We will also be learning to follow instructions and share space during games.

We have a PE session in the hall on Mondays, in the Learning Zone/outdoors on a Tuesday and a trim trail session on a Friday and of course there are lots of opportunities of being outdoors when the weather is nice. We will not get changed every time we do a PE/HWB session but we will try to practise once a week and hopefully you will find the right clothing on your child! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
