This week we are learning to the sound’ck’. Encourage your child to say only one sound – not ‘c’ and ‘k’. We found lots of words that had the sound’ck’ and we used our knowledge of rime to help us. We made lists of words that ended with – ack, eck, ick, ock, uck.

Have fun at home! Can you think of any words that we did not find today?

Have a go of these games.

Reading

This week to help us understand what we read, we are learning to make a picture in our head as we read or listen to the words of a text, story or poem. We are learning that the picture must match closely to the words we read.

Handwriting

When you practise at home – say it out loud to aid pencil control.

  • use finger spaces between words
  • use our bronze/silver spelling words in our writing

We are learning to solve subtraction problems using materials or counting back.

We are learning place value of numbers.

Subtraction Train – click on the take away wagon to practise

Minus Mission – shoot down the correct spaceship

Flash Interactive – place value – how may dots can you see?

Always have fun!

A super DYW week last week!

The lady who looks after the goats was very sad as the bridge for the goats had been washed away in the flooding! She could not see the goats so we decided that we would build a new bridge for her to let her visit the goats.

We had lots of ideas about the types of jobs that would need to be done to build a bridge and came up with these:

  • designer/engineer
  • builder
  • truck/lorry driver
  • safety officer
  • decorator
  • scuba diver

Making circuits

Today we continued our learning about electricity with the help of some S3 students from Millburn Academy. We learned how to make a simple circuit and how to make the bulb light up. Then we learned about the symbols we use for bulbs, wires and batteries, and used them to draw our own circuits.

Thank you so much Mr Crawshaw and Millburn S3s!
