Big Learning this week 25.11.19

Phonics

We are learning to recognise the sounds ‘u’ and ‘h’ and we are blending sounds together to make and break 3 letter words.

Writing

We are learning to use write for different purposes e.g. signs, labels, cards, postcards, letters.

Numeracy

We are learning to add sets together and count how many altogether.

We are learning to use and find ordinal numbers.

An Ordinal Number is a number that tells the position of something in a list, such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

Try these Ordinal Number games:

Ordinal Number – click onto the correct fruit

Car Race Order – drag the cars into position

IDL

We have waved goodbye to Pudsey and welcomed in a new character called ‘Plop’. He is a baby barn owl and we met him in a lovely book called ‘The Owl Who Is Afraid Of The Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson.

We will use this story in our next learning journey called ‘The Great Outdoors’. This context will cover learning about day and night, the weather, seasons and recording information.

The children help to plan this learning as we chat about what we already know and think about things we want to make, do, write and say.

We started by creating a dark den in a tree as Plop likes to watch what is going on from the top of a tall tree.

We are learning to describe changes during seasons.

It’s that time of the year!

The excitement is mounting as we plan to represent our class at the Crown Christmas Service.

The P1 children have a little Christmas Message that they would love to share with you! To do this we will sing a few songs with our biggest and best singing voices and smiles. We will split into groups to make headbands and wear coloured t-shirts (details to follow-it will just be a t-shirt rather than a costume, we think!) for our performance.

The Church Service will be on Friday the 20th December @9.30am in Crown Church. We look forward to seeing you there.
