Big Learning this week…

Phonics

This week we are learning the initial sounds ‘d’ and ‘e’.

What can you find at home that begins with these sounds?

Have a go at this initial sounds game.

Have a go at making a word building game at home. Use milk bottle lids and write the sounds we have learned on the lids. With the lids you can try to build words.

Numeracy

We have been really focussing in on the number before/one less than… this week along with counting back.

Have a go as you walk to school!

Use the paint the square game. Ask someone at home to give you a number and you paint the number that comes before.

Talk for Writing – Jungle story telling

We will be telling our own stories this week substituting the animals in ‘The Little Brown Monkey’ with our own choice of animals.

We will practise adding detail to draw the animals in our own story.

Reading

No new books this week but keep having fun with books. We will collect reading books on Wednesday and give out new books after the holidays.

Keep practising the sight words and sounds in your yellow books 🙂

Friday fun!

Crown Primary 3's avatarPrimary 3 2019/2020

P1-3 enjoyed a real treat this afternoon. We had a visit from author Emily Dodd, who had come along to share her latest book ‘Crime Squirrel Investigators: The Naughty Nut Thief’.

We got in the mood with some foresty sounds and smells and then, with Emily’s help, enjoyed helping to solve the riddle of ‘Who stole Rosie’s hazelnuts?’

There was singing, dancing, rapping and a bit of science too!

Many thanks to Emily for giving us such a fun afternoon, and to NessBookFest for organising the event.

Word Building Fun

We have been using the sounds we know to build words.

To be really successful we :-

  • say the word out loud
  • listen to the sounds we can hear
  • think about the sound at the start, middle and end
  • put out the sounds in order to make the word
  • always start at the left to build words
